Fly Like An Eagle

Time keeps on slipping, slipping, slipping into the future. I want to fly like an eagle to the sea. Fly like an eagle, let my spirit carry me. I want to fly like an eagle till I’m free...
My God tells me to soar on wings like eagles. To look at my life from a bird's-eye view, carefully examining all the twists and turns from high above. I’ve had the privilege of witnessing an eagle in flight several times in my life. My friend has a lake house and each time I visit it’s not unusual to catch the elusive eagle soaring above the tranquil waters. It’s a blessing (she thinks I’m a lucky charm).
The eagle’s wingspan is massive and the talons huge. The perch, statuesque and demanding, waiting for nature to show itself. A mighty creation, majestic and powerful in every way. If only we could gain control of our lives with such certainty and keen vision. Many of us live with a constant inner struggle. We listen to the voices that tell us we aren't enough, never will be, and no one wants to hear what we have to say. The voices keep us paralyzed from having the life God intended. We trade peace and freedom for lies that are not valid or even exist.
Where and when did we pick up these little troublemakers that live in our heads? We believe them, and they become part of our lives. How long we let them take up residency and how often they visit us — is up to the landlord. Me and you! Personally, I’d like to rid myself of the nasty voices once and for all. The effort and maintenance we put into our conscience will always find it’s way out. We must invest in the endeavor to change our belief systems. Fill our tanks with authenticity and love. Surround ourselves with those who merit a place in our forts.

Flying above the clouds, trusting God’s desire to give us peace and security, and believing in His worthiness is a daunting task. Relying on our own knowledge and understanding will never bring us to those goals. Peace is a gift; one I can’t live without. With peace comes freedom. And if we could hold to these truths, imagine the adventure our lives would take. I want to own it all—peace, freedom, hope, faith, love and trust. Each one free for the asking and believing. I want to soar above the clouds, looking down on my life, with all its twists and turns, the high’s of the mountains and deep valleys, desserts and vast seas, with confidence and courage knowing that my journey will take me places I could never have imagined. Best part of writing that? It’s already begun!
